Rose Island (Italian: L'incredibile storia dell'Isola delle Rose) is a 2020 Italian comedy-drama film directed by Sydney Sibilia.
The film is based on the true story of engineer Giorgio Rosa and the Republic of Rose Island. It was released on Netflix on 9 December 2020.

Giorgio Rosa approaches the Council of Europe with a petition to protect and recognize his Island, which he later elaborates was built by him and his friend Maurizio Orlandini. The film flashes back a year to show how on passing the state exam he met with his ex-girlfriend, Gabriella in Bologna. He insisted on driving her back in his self made car, which has no licence plate. On being stopped by the police it is revealed that he even has a self made plane and no licence or registration for either of his vehicles. He is jailed for the night and bailed out by his father. He then remarks to build a world based on his own rules. Three months later, he is working for motorbike racer Bruno Spaggiari as a engineer when he sees a billboard showing petroleum extraction from the sea. Inspired, he convinces Maurizio, who is tired of working in his father's company to help him build an island just outside the territorial waters of Italy, to avoid legal jurisdiction where everyone is free to do as they want. They cleverly manage the budgets and bring down the estimated cost and are successful in building an island of their own, with a freshwater supply. A cast-away welder with his boat becomes the first resident, and soon there are others visiting the Island.

Simultaneously, students in France attempt to overthrow the establishment. This further spreads the idea and more people begin to join the Island, including Franca, a 19 year old pregnant girl who decides to become the barmaid of the 400 square metre island's sole bar; club promoter Wolfgang Rudy Neumann, a stateless past-German who is the leading PR manager of a beach club. Neumann starts to promote the publicity of the island and turning it into a beach club like spot. Observing this, Gabriella, who had come to the island to tell Giorgio of her pending marriage, claims that it doesn't represent a nation, that it's nothing more than a disco. He argues that the island, now named Rose Island, has its own language, currency, postal system and other amenities including a citizenship process that is soon to be started. But Gabriella points out that there is no official recognition of it.
