Roller Squad (2021) online

I was hooked from the start with a cool guy street blading. A speed skating chase scene was just perfect: pretty girls, likable guys, clean colorful photography, and mild soundtrack. Most of the movie is pairs of good skaters chasing a bad skater. The bad skater is stabbing people with a knife, the good skaters are so good they don't have any weapons. It's hard to believe anyone acts like that in real life anywhere. But for the sake of pleasant movie watching, I tried. The movie continued to fizzle out until the plot had no soul, the actors had no soul, and the movie was a complete dud. But I did watch it and it was somewhat enjoyable at times. On the other hand, I was a speed blader and I am bias for the art. They had the obligatory impressive blade twists, cones and crossovers, but they didn't really photograph the jump timing of a speed skater (or any really wicked tight spray stops,) considering how much time we watched them trying to skate fast. I usually don't say this, but I think they should have asked for my help. Truly a movie with some good ideas and missed opportunities. It's a generous 5 for barely watchable, I added a personal bias star for the opening scene. Some skaters should have been better, one miscast was on the street in the old style figure roller skates because she really couldn't skate, much less dance.
